Earth's Rotation and Revolution:

Earth’s Rotation and Revolution:

The Shape of spherical like a football.

Structure of Earth: A straight line passing through the centre of the earth divides it into two equal halves. This line is known as the diameter of earth. The diameter of the planet Earth is 12750Km.

Movement of the Earth: Our earth has two different types of movement and they are Rotation and Revolution.

Earth’s Rotation: The earth spins around its own axis by an imaginary line that passes through the North and South Poles of the planet. The spinning movement of the earth is called rotation. It rotates from west to east. Earth rotates once in about 24 hours. The speed of earth’s spin is about 1700 Km per hour.

Formation of Day and Night: The rotation of the earth causes the formation of day and night on earth. The side facing the sun is hot and bright resulting a day while the side facing away is cooler and darker, resulting the night. Because the earth is constantly spinning, the line between the day and the night is always moving around the planet.

Earth’s Revolution: The earth travels around the sun in a path called orbit. The motion of the earth around the sun along its orbit is called a revolution. The time it takes for a single trip around the sun is called a period of revolution. Earth takes 365 days to complete the one revolution around the sun. Earth’s orbit is not a perfect circle. It is slightly elliptical in shape. It spins with the speed of 107000 Km per hour.

Change of Seasons: We know that there are four seasons in a year, namely winter, spring, summer and autumn. Changing of the season on earth is caused by the revolution of the earth around the sun as well as the tilt of the earth on its axis. During summer, the days are longer and nights are shorter but in winter, days are shorter and nights are longer.
