History of Hagia Sophia:

Welcome to Arti-Master, I am Muhammad Hamza, Today I will provide you information about Turkey's 1500 years old building "Hagia Sophia".

Bazantinian ruler, Justinian 1 ordered to build this building in 532 AD. At that time Istanbul's name was Qustantunia. Hagia Sofia was a mosque for about 480 years. But, When Turkey's founder Mustafa Kamal Ataturk destroyed the Ottoman Empire. In 1931, First, he closed the doors of Hagia Sofia then he converted Hagia Sophia ( Mosque) into a museum. But now, after about 85 years, Hagia Sophia is now converted into Mosque.

Qustantunia (Istanbul) was the capital of the Bazantinian Empire. When in 537 AD, this building's construction was completed then this building became the place of Church Orthodox. Main Bazintinain ceremonies used to organize in that place. About for 900 years, this place was Church.

In 1453, the Ottoman Empire's ruler Sultan Muhammad Fateh conquered Qustantunia. Sultan ordered to change Qustantunia's name into Istanbul. When the sultan entered in that building, he ordered that this building should be rebuilt and convert this building into a Mosque. Sultan Muhammad Fateh also offered Jummah's prayer in that Mosque. Hagia Sophia was the main Mosque of Qustantunia ( Istanbul ).  


When the Ottoman Empire was defeated in World War II. Modern Turkey was found after the destroying of the Ottoman Empire. And Ataturk offered to change it into a museum. And in 1935, it was opened for the common man. 

It is a 1500 years old Mosque. First, this was Cristian's Church, but then it was converted into a Mosque. Rajab Tayib Erdogan was in favor that this building should be converted into Mosque. And in Court's decision "Hagia Sophia is a Mosque. And Muslims can offer prayer there".
